Aquatic Habitat Restoration Projects

Grant SWCD works with other agencies and applies for funding through competitive grant programs to gain funding to help local landowners comply with Federal and State regulations pertaining to Ag Water Quality,Threatened and Endangered aquatic life forms and their habitat. These programs protect, preserve and enhance the habitat for aquatic life.

2017 Aquatic Habitat Restoration Projects

1. USFS Big Creek Restoration, Project lead is Levi Voigt. This project will promote the recovery of natural stream processes and floodplain connectivity by regrading existing mine tailing piles, creating side channels, adding large wood features, and installing a new bottomless culvert along Big Creek, a Tributary of the Middle Fork.

2016 Aquatic Habitat Restoration Projects

Grant SWCD had three projects scheduled for completion in 2016; Meredith Diversion #4 phase 2, Larson Irrigation Project and McHaley Pipeline and Irrigation Improvements Project

2015 Aquatic Habitat Restoration Projects

In 2015 Grant SWCD had five projects scheduled for completion; Meredith #4 phase 1, BLM Alder Creek Headcut Meadow Restoration, Upper John Day River Restoration-Lower Island Ditch Diversion, Voigt Lower Clear Creek Diversion and Roberts Creek Diversion.

2014 Aquatic Habitat Restoration Projects

The replacement and modification of the Meredith #1 & #2, #3, #4 and #5 Diversions has eliminated the remaining fish passage impediments on Beech Creek, a tributary of the John Day River. Diversion #4 phase 1 was completed in 2015 while Diversion #4 phase 2 was completed in 2016. These improvements provide fish passage for all life stages of salmonids.
