2014 Riparian Habitat Restoration Projects
Grant SWCD obtained funding through OWEB and partnered with ODFW on riparian restoration projects to enhance the critical habitat that has been degraded due to multiple reasons. A combination of unrestricted livestock grazing and crop management practices over the past century have resulted in diminished riparian function. Denuded streambanks contrubute to increased water temperatures and sediment loads.
Over time these projects will increase riparian vegetation which will help stabalize streambanks and erosion will decrease thereby improving water quality. As the riparian vegetation matures, they will provide cover as well as habitat for anadromous and resident fish populations. Stream channel morphology will improve as large wood becomes reintroduced into the system.
